Let’s Build a Better Boston

COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS

I am more convinced than ever that with the strength of your support and with our values as our guide, together we can build a better Boston.  Please use my office as a resource by sending an email to felix.arroyo@cityofboston.gov or calling us at 617-635-4205.

I am also proud to announce that Council President Michael P. Ross has asked me to chair the following committees:

As the Chair of the Committee on Labor, Youth Affairs and Human Rights, I can utilize my past experience as a labor organizer to look at ways that the City Council can be an ally to working families throughout the City.  The Committee also allows me to use my experience as a youth sports coach to work with youth organizations throughout the City on issues such as Summer Jobs, After-School Activities, Youth Violence and Substance Abuse.

As the Chair of the Special Committee on the 2010 Census, I will be traveling across the City working to ensure that everyone in Boston gets counted.  An accurate count in the 2010 Census has a direct impact on federal funding and also determines the number of Congressional seats we will have in Massachusetts for the next ten years.  There is the possibility that Massachusetts could lose a Congressional seat, so a comprehensive, accurate count of our state’s population is crucial.

As the Vice – Chair of the Committee on Environment & Health, I will be able to use my experience as a health care organizer to work on various public health initiatives.  It also allows me to work on the clear ties between a clean environment and the effects of that on our health.

A Boston that works for everybody—where we all have opportunities to succeed—requires that we all work together towards that goal.  I look forward to working with you and for you in the coming year.  I am excited by the possibilities and grateful for the opportunity.

Thank you for visiting my website.  I ran for the Boston City Council at Large because I want to work with you to build a better Boston.  As an experienced community organizer, I believe in “collaborative politics” – bringing people together so that everyone’s voice is heard.  As a lifelong Bostonian, I am grateful for all of the opportunities that Boston has given to me and my family and I believe that all residents of Boston should have access to those opportunities.  I hope to earn your support and I ask that you join us.  Let’s build a better Boston.
